Twelve Weeks Update

The most dramatic development this week: Reflexes. Baby T's fingers will soon begin to open and close, toes will curl, eye muscles will clench, and the mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if I were to prod my abdomen, the baby will squirm in response, although I won't be able to feel it. The intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into the abdominal cavity about now, and the kidneys will begin excreting urine into the bladder.

Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in the baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His/Her face looks unquestionably human: Eyes have moved from the sides to the front of the head, and ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, baby-to-be is just over two inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Eleven Weeks Update

Baby T is, who is just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her/His hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under the gums, and some of the bones are beginning to harden.

Baby T is already busy kicking and stretching, and her/his tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as the body grows and becomes more developed and functional. I won't feel the baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor do I notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that the diaphragm is forming.

Ten weeks update

Though Baby T is a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, he/she has now completed the most critical portion of his/her development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.

Baby T is swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout the pregnancy.
There are tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.

The limbs can bend now and hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over the heart, and the feet may be long enough to meet in front of the body. The outline of the spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from the spinal cord. Baby T's forehead temporarily bulges with the developing brain (because this baby is going to be really smart) and sits very high on the head, which measures half the length of the body. From crown to rump, Baby T is about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, the baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

We just got back from the doctor's office and all is well. We have one healthy baby and our due date is July 1st! YEAH!

Monday, December 3rd

We are really ready for Monday for our doctor's appointment. We will get a due date, and know how far along we are. (Since right now we are just estimating) I am feeling so much better now. Not as tired as I was and the nausea has gone away, so that's a blessing! Now we are just ready to get the sonogram pictures! :) We will put them on the website as soon as possible! :)

Nine weeks update

Baby T is nearly an inch long, about the size of a grape and weighs just a fraction of an ounce and is starting to look more and more human. The essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Baby T's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Baby T's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. The eyes are fully formed, but eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. Baby T has tiny earlobes, and the mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. Now that the basic physiology is in place, Baby T is poised for rapid weight gain.

Eight weeks update

Because we are going to be out of town this week you get your update early. Plus we really have no clue what week we are in so who knows, we may already be in week nine. We get to find out in 13 days our due date! YEAH!


Webbed fingers and toes are poking out from baby T's hands and feet, his/her eyelids practically cover his/her eyes, breathing tubes extend from his/her throat to the branches of his/her developing lungs, and his/her "tail" is just about gone. In the brain, nerve cells are branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways. Baby T is about the size of a kidney bean and is constantly moving and shifting, though I still can't feel it.

Seven weeks update

The big news this week: Hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs — although they look more like paddles at this point than the tiny, pudgy extremities we are daydreaming about holding and tickling. Technically, the baby is still considered an embryo and has something of a small tail, which is an extension of her/his tailbone. The tail will disappear within a few weeks, but that's the only thing getting smaller. Baby T has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry.

Right now there are eyelid folds partially covering her/his peepers, which already have some color, as well as the tip of her/his nose and tiny veins beneath parchment-thin skin. Both hemispheres of your baby T's brain are growing, and her/his liver is churning out red blood cells until her/his bone marrow forms and takes over this role. She/He also has an appendix and a pancreas, which will eventually produce the hormone insulin to aid in digestion. A loop in baby T's growing intestines is bulging into her/his umbilical cord, which now has distinct blood vessels to carry oxygen and nutrients to and from her/his tiny body.

Six weeks update

This week's major developments: The nose, mouth, and ears that we will spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. His/her emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and his/her arms and legs by protruding buds. His/her heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute — almost twice as fast as mine — and blood is beginning to course through his/her body. His intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his/her lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his/her brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, Baby T is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean.

Fun with Family this weekend

We went down to Belton for homecoming and the best part was getting to see family and friends! We got to share our amazing news with all of them!




Bekah got a 3-day tent from Aunt Benita and Uncle Zach for her birthday! She really liked it!

Can you believe he/she already has a heartbeat! That is amazing to me. What an amazing God we have that make a heart beat within a child that is less than 1/8th of an inch big!

Also what an amazing and humorous God we have that even though it is only 1/8th of an inch big it is already causing so many changes. I don't think it's that funny God.

Everything going good. Just some nausea and TIREDNESS! Some of the tiredness is still from The 3 Day though.

All grandparents have already bought stuff for the baby. We think that's cute. Now it's time for me to buy something. BABY SHOPPING TIME! :)

First Appointment

Our first doctor appointment is December 3rd. At this appointment we can confirm the due date and hopefully make sure it's just one baby. We will let you know! :)
